Examination Policy
• All examinations and mini exams must be attended at the time and date specified on the
timetable. Non-compliance results in exams being capped at 40% unless a different sitting is
approved two weeks in advance as per the Extenuating Circumstances process.
• Any student failing to achieve a pass mark must re-sit the exam at the next available
opportunity
• If a student retakes an examination, or sits an examination by special arrangement, an
advance fee may be payable
• Diploma: Two re-sits are permitted per exam before a fee is payable. Refer to the Additional
Student Fees document.
• Degree: One re-sit, fee is payable. Refer to the Additional Student Fees document.
• All re-sit examinations are capped at the pass mark of 40% (Module and end of semester
exams)
• Students who have not met the required academic level will be discussed at an Exam /
Progression Board and may not be able to progress.
• All marks are provisional until ratified by the CNM Exam Board.
• CNM operates a strict no-cheating policy in all assessments, if a student is found to have cheated, they
will get an automatic fail and can re-sit, but will be capped at the pass mark.
• Students must not share any part of the exam, in person or electronically (including social
media platforms) during the period of the exam (open to you and other students).
• During the exam:
o Leave bags on floor, only pens and water on desk
o No books/dictionaries
o All mobile phones and smart watches to be switched off and left in bags.
o No talking or looking at other students’ papers during the exam
Online Semester Exams (in addition to the above)
Monitored online by external invigilation software and human reviewer
• Must be taken on one device either PC or laptop, not suitable for mobile devices
• Use the bathroom before the exam, must remain in view of the camera at all times
• Abide by the following rules to avoid exam violations:
o Must complete room and desk scan as instructed before starting examination
o Stay in view of the camera
o Must not use collaborative applications such as Slack, Zoom, Teams etc
o Do not communicate with others
o Do not be in the presence of others
o No use of smart devices, such as phone or tablet
o Do not use headphones
o Must not use any external resources such as books, notepads or paper
o Must not leave full screen
o Must not use additional screen or monitor
o Spellchecker/Google translate/Thesaurus/dictionary etc are not permitted
